Break Down the Walls currently has several useful features.
- It adds a button to your toolbar which, when clicked, will open the current link (unless it is an Amazon or Goodreads link, see below) in one of sci-hub's mirrors. This allows for one-click access from the journal page of an article to its PDF. If the article is not available on Scihub, it will search for it on Nexus.
- It adds 'Download PDF' to your context menu (right click menu). When you are searching for an article on Google Scholar or somewhere else, you can right click the link and click on 'Download PDF' to directly download the PDF if it is available on Sci-hub or Nexus.
- If you right click on an Amazon link click 'Download PDF', if you are viewing a book , Break Down the Walls will search Library Genesis for you and open the search page.
- The extension supports Goodreads and Google Books in addition to Amazon. If you are viewing a book on Goodreads or Google Books, pressing the toolbar button will automatically search for the book on Libgen and present you with the search results.
- Note that the right-click 'Download PDF' option does not work with Goodreads and Google Books. If you want to find a book from Goodreads or Google Books on Libgen, please open the book page and use the toolbar button.
It is possible to change which Sci-hub mirror is used by the extension by right clicking on the toolbar icon, selecting "Manage extension" and opening "Options" in the page. Currently, there are only 4 mirrors, but more will be added if needed.
